Life is better in a world where peace exists and, today, we lo ok to those who have been peacemakers and peacekeepers to learn what we can each do individually to make the world a more peaceful place.

The International Day of Peace (sometimes unofficially known as World Peace Day) is observed around the world each year on 21 September. Established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations resolution, Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to Peace above all differences and to contribute to building a Culture of Peace. At a time when war and violence often monopolize our news cycles, the International Day of Peace is an inspiring reminder of what we can create together.

The coronavirus disease has added a new dimension to Peace Day 2020. For the first time in history, people all over the world are having the same concerns about how we rebuild the world beyond the pandemic. Peace is possible. Let’s give it a chance!

The UN’s International Day of Peace is a global observance and not a public holiday. It is a day when nations around the world are invited to honor a cessation of hostilities during the day. The International Day of Peace is also a day of ceasefire – personal or political.

The peace dove flying with an olive branch in its beak is one of the most commonly featured symbols for the day. In Judaism, Christianity, and Islam a white dove is generally a sign for peace. The dove can also represent “hope for peace” or a peace offering from one person to another, hence the phrase “to extend an olive branch”. Often, the dove is represented as still in flight to remind people of its role as messenger.

FIJET (World Association of travel journalists and writers)is based upon principles designed to: – Contribute to the maintenance of peace and security throughout the world by strengthening co-operation between nations through culture, education and tourism, promote dialogue between and among civilizations and cultures and promote the free exchange of ideas through International Tourism.

Let us all create Peace Day everyday! Peace is possible.
