DUBAI HOSTS UK AND RUSSIA PLANNERS FOR BUSINESS EVENTS STUDY MISSION
City leads the way globally in resuming business events and giving planners the opportunity to see and experience destination first hand
Dubai Business Events (DBE) has successfully hosted a study mission for meeting planners from the UK and Russia – its first in 10 months, since the onset of the global Covid-19 pandemic – demonstrating the strong safety measures in place to protect all visitors while at the same showing how the city is leading the way in the global reopening of the business events sector.
With both countries now having safe travel corridors to the UAE, the 13-strong group was able to explore some iconic locations, attractions and venues in Dubai, while at the same time experiencing first-hand the hospitality the city has built a strong reputation for. The planners were also able to gain an understanding the health and safety protocols put in place that have enabled Dubai to become one of the first cities in the world to resume business events.
Among the highlights were visits to Atlantis, The Palm, Madinat Jumeirah and JW Marriott Marquis, all well-established hotels that offer both extensive accommodation and significant and state-of-the-art meeting facilities. The group also caught spectacular views of the city from At The Top at Burj Khalifa and absorbed the city’s heritage within the Al Fahidi Neighbourhood and Al Seef.
DUBAI HOSTS GITEX AND HISTORIC UAE-ISRAEL SUMMIT
Robust safety measures and momentum since the resumption of business events facilitated a successful edition of the only major global technology event this year
Dubai has underlined its role in leading the global recovery of the business events sector, hosting GITEX, the only major in-person technology event to go live this year amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Featuring the participation of over 1,200 innovative tech enterprises, startups and government entities from more than 60 countries, over 200 of the most active investors and VCs from 30 countries, and over 350 speakers from 30 countries, the event – held 6-10 December – was opened by Crown Prince of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Among the highlights of the event was the release by Smart Dubai of the ‘Future of Work’ report – a study that explores future possibilities of work; the potential developments expected to transform the nature of jobs; the mindset shifts that are driving these possibilities; as well as the evolving structural changes that are redefining the human-workplace dynamic.
Also taking place within GITEX was the landmark UAE-Israel Future Digital Economy Summit, with government ministers, business leaders and tech innovators sharing their vision for collaboration between the two countries. The Israel Export Institute (IEI), Strategic Country Partner for GITEX, in partnership with Bank Hapoalim, led a delegation of Israeli government officials, entrepreneurs and business executives to the event, which presented attendees with vast opportunities in the areas of innovation exploration, capacity building, investments, and co-creation.
