A strong earthquakes hit central Croatia today, destroying buildings and sending panicked people fleeing into rubble-covered streets in towns Petrinja, Sisak, Glina and its surroundings southeast of the capital. The magnitude 6.3 quake hit 46 kilometers (28 miles) southeast of Zagreb. 12-year-old girl died in Petrinja, a town of some 25,000 people. Another six people were killed in a nearly destroyed village close to the town Glina. More than 20 people were hospitalized.

The same area was struck by a 5.2 quake yesterday. There were also many quakes below magnitude 5.0. The biggest part of central Petrinja is in a red zone, which means that most of the buildings are not usable, completely destroyed. A devastating earthquake that struck the town of Petrinja some 60 kilometres southeast of Zagreb has caused damage to several buildings in the capital City and Zagorje County.
Emergency teams used rescue dogs while looking for survivors, while family members looked on in despair.
Croatian President, Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic and other government ministers arrived in Petrinja,Sisak and Glina after the earthquake.

The hospital in the nearby town of Sisak was also badly hit, the patients are evacuated in army helicopters and ambulances in Zagreb.
The Croatian military was deployed in the region to help with the rescue operation. The Arena sports hall in Zagreb, which was turned into an emergency care centre for coronavirus patients, will also begin to take in coronavirus patients from the county of Sisak-Moslavina, which was affected the earthquake. The destructive earthquake has taken human lives, destroyed homes, and we deeply sympathise with every person and every family that has been harmed.
What I have to say is that I express condolences to the families of the vistims, sincerely sympathize with all the families who survived the tragedy. And, really hope that the number of victims will be as low as possible.
